Myrtle Lena Brinkmeier was born the daughter of Gustav and Lena (Oelke) Stapel Nov. 30, 1906 in Winsted Township. She was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Myrtle spent much of her time outdoors attending to gardens of flowers, fruits and vegetables and also helping with the farm work. She never relinquished the lessons of youth, when "homemade" was the way of life. Her hobbies included a variety of needlework and much of it has been left behind as a legacy to her descendants.

One of the greatest joys in Myrtle's life was the love she had for children and grandchildren, this was shown by the time she spent with them.
