Ruby Jean Nelson Carlsted
Ruby Jean Nelson Carlsted, age 72 of Dassel, passed from this life Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Ruby was born Nov. 14, 1927, at the home of her parents, Erick H. and Audrey (Anderson) Nelson in Dassel Township. She was baptized and later, confirmed, at the First Lutheran (Gethsemane) Lutheran Church, Dassel, by the Rev. F. Wm. Hanson.
Ruby received her education at the Dassel Public School and graduated from high school in 1945. Following high school, she lived in Minneapolis and worked for the University of Minnesota.
On June 3, 1951, Ruby was united in marriage to Norman Carlsted at the English Lutheran Church, Grand Island, Neb. Norman and Ruby made Dassel their home after their marriage.
Besides being a mother and homemaker, Ruby was employed by Lakeshore Products, Dassel; and also, for many years, by the Peterson Pharmacy, Dassel.
Ruby leaves to mourn her passing her mother, Audrey Nelson of Dassel; three children: Ryan of Dassel, Shari Carlsted and husband, David Bachmann, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and Marshall and wife, LeeAnn of Howard Lake; seven grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Milo Madson of Dassel; and a brother, Dale Nelson of Browning, Mont.
She was preceded in death by her husband Norman, who died in January, 1991; her daughter, Holly Thompson; and her father, Erick Nelson.
Ruby was a charter member of the Athena Study Club; a volunteer with the Dassel Historical Society; and a volunteer on the financial committee, Gethsemane Lutheran Church, each Monday morning.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 15, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Dassel, with the Revs. Scott and Paula Geister-Jones officiating. Music included a piano medley by pianist Terri Skuza and congregational hymns with Skuza as accompanist.
Casket bearers were Lennart Nielsen, Tom Richards, Mike Skuza, Mike Pinnell, Warren Nelson, and Colby Hall.
Interment was in Dassel Cemetery.
The Johnson Funeral Home, Dassel, handled the arrangements.
