Amelia Bertha Caroline Cochran
Amelia Bertha Caroline Cochran, age 90 of Howard Lake, died Friday, April 28, 2000.
Amelia was born July 16, 1909, in Victor Township, Minn., the daughter of Albert and Minnie (Schmieg) Drawert. As a life-long member of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, she was baptized into the Christian faith July 22, 1909, by the Rev. Ernst Robert, and confirmed in her faith May 27, 1923, by the Rev. A. L. Oetjen.
On Sept. 12, 1926, Amelia was united in marriage to Roy Cochran. Their 45 years together were blessed with the birth of nine children.
Amelia and Roy made their home in the Howard Lake area. Amelia served on the Corey School Board for several years as clerk, and one year on the Wright County School Board of Directors.
She worked at Moulded Products Toy Factory, Maple Plain, for several years. In 1959, she and her husband moved to Minneapolis where she worked at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, in the housekeeping department.
In 1969, Amelia and Roy moved back to Howard Lake, where Amelia became involved as a home health aide with the nursing group of Wright County. After Roy's passing in 1971, she moved to the Howard Lake Apartments and managed them for 10 years, until ill health forced her to retire.
After a brief illness this past winter, Amelia became a resident at the Howard Lake Care Center. At the time of her death, she had reached the age of 90 years, nine months, and 12 days.
Amelia was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Minnie Drawert; her husband, Roy Cochran; two daughters, Gloria Asplin and DeLores Sexton; two sons, Gaylen and Gibson; one brother, Kenneth Drawert; one sister, Lila Diers; and three grandsons, Kim Schrupp, Marcel Cochran, and Dean Sexton.
She is survived by five children: Gladys (Ed) Stolka of Delano, Gordon of Howard Lake, Ronald (Arlene) of Glenwood, Karen (Robert) Duraine of Hugo, Lois Berg, and William Haavisto of Cokato.
Amelia is further survived by Erwin Sexton, Darlene Cochran, Lorraine Peterson, Lloyd and Norma Drawert, Viola Collins, George and Lorraine Lauzer, Luverne and Walter Barlau, Boone Sexton, Bette Cochran, Dorothy Cochran, Eva Cochran, Jenny Cochran, many grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, May 1, at St. James Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. The organist was Diane Johnson, with special music by the Ladies Choir. Interment was at the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Philip Sexton, Steven Cochran, Rick Cochran, Mark Cochran, Brent Cochran, Dennis Glessing, Jeff Mapes, and Pat Salonek.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
