She and her husband, Elmer "Jake" Diers, were well known within the Mora and Elk River communities for their fine paint horses. They welcomed a steady flow of friends who shared this interest. Her kitchen was well known for its supply of good coffee, homemade pastries and conversation that catered on mares, foals, and the beautiful stallions visitors traveled states to see.

Lucille was born in Hutchinson, Minn., Aug. 30, 1916. She was an energetic, outgoing person who, after the death of her husband a year earlier, was warmly welcomed back to the town of her birth by family and friends.
