John Herman Dietzel
Funeral services for John Herman Dietzel, age 101 of Lester Prairie, were Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, from St. Peter Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie. John died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Waconia.
Born in Benton Township, Carver County, Minn., Oct. 21, 1898, John was the son of Charles and Margaret (Plackner) Dietzel. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Ev. Reformed Church, Bongards, Minn., by the Rev. J. Rosenow.
John attended school through the eighth grade and then remained at the home place near Cologne, Minn., until he began his lifetime career as an auto mechanic.
In 1929, John was united in marriage to Della Glander.
He had a well-known concertina band for a number of years.
In 1952, he married Lena (Radtke) Quast.
At the age of 65, John operated a lawn mower shop out of his home until 1989, when he began full retirement.
In recent years, John resided at the Waconia Good Samaritan Center, where he entered his eternal rest, Dec. 23, 1999, at the age of 101 years, two months, and two days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Della; wife, Lena; brother, Charles; three sisters, Carrie, Anna, and Minnie; and two step-grandchildren, Don Quast and Janet Rickert.
Survivors include a son, Walner Dietzel (wife, Marlys) of Anoka; two grandchildren, Mike Dietzel (wife, Linda) of Barron, Wis.; and Patricia Ann Jasmer (husband, Everett) of Champlin, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Tanya Turnus (husband, Justin) of Ramsey, and Tiffany Jasmer of Champlin; two great-great-grandchildren, Brittany Rose Turnus and Jacob Turnus; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The Rev. Gerald Schwanke officiated at the 11 a.m. funeral service. Mary Mielke was the organist and the congregational hymns were "How Great Thou Art," "Just As I Am," and "Nearer My God To Thee." Interment was in the church cemetery.
Casket bearers were Charles Lemke, Herbert Glander, Jr., Rueben Dietzel, Wilmer Kroells, Charles Dietzel, and Mike Dietzel.
The Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel handled the funeral arrangements.
