Gilbert Neil Duncan
Gilbert Neil Duncan, age 66 of Howard Lake, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, of cancer, at the VA Medical Center, Minneapolis.
Gilbert was born May 4, 1934, in Clearwater Township, Wright County. He was raised by foster parents William and Esther Kreitlow on a farm north of Howard Lake. He attended Highland and Howard Lake schools.
In 1952, Gilbert joined the Army, serving until 1963. He was mainly stationed in Korea, Japan, and Germany.
Gilbert was united in marriage to Helen Rice on April 8, 1966. They made their home in Howard Lake, where they raised two children.
Gilbert retired in May 1999 from Sterner Lighting, Winsted.
His hobbies included woodworking and yard work. He was also a great conservationist and nature lover.
Survivors include his wife Helen; son, Shawn, of Hutchinson; daughter, Melissa, of Crystal; foster brothers, Burton (Doris) Kreitlow of Grand Marais, and Willard (Dorothy) Kreitlow of Howard Lake; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Monday, Sept. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2 p.m., at the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Joel Swedberg officiating. Music was by Grant Judd. Interment was at the Howard Lake City Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were Duane Eveland, Kent Eveland, Bob Gilbertson, John Johnson, Bill Stokes, and Kevin Stokes.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Howard Lake.
