Ronald G. Emich
Ronald G. Emich, age 67 of rural Nicollet, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at ImmanuelSt. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Ronald was born Sept. 5, 1932, to George and Helen (Ernst) Emich in Lester Prairie. He graduated from Lester Prairie High School in 1950, and attended Mankato State University.
He worked for Central Manufacturing in Lester Prairie, and then, for McLeod-Wright Creameries, before serving his country in the United States Navy from March 1952 until 1956, with time spent on the U.S.S. Missouri.
He married Doris Hanson on March 12, 1955, in Glencoe. Following being discharged from the Navy, he worked that summer for Lester's, Inc.
From 1956 to 1962, Ron was employed by Sears Roebuck Company, Mankato; and then, from 1962 to 1971, he worked for the United States Post Office, Mankato. He was also with the Blue Earth County Assessors Office during that time.
From January 1972 to December 1977, Ron owned and operated Emich's Market in Nicollet and was a substitute rural carrier for the post office.
After selling Emich's Market, he worked for a short time for Standard Lumber, St. Peter; following which he was employed by Cotter Company, Mankato, from 1978 to 1994.
In retirement, Ron worked at Mankato Mortuary from 1994 to 2000, and also worked on the year 2000 census.
Ron was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mankato, where he was involved in the Men's Club and served as an elder.
He was also a member of the Nicollet American Legion Post 510 and a past member of the Nicollet County Planning and Zoning Board.
He served as clerk for the Nicollet Public School and was a scorekeeper and game announcer. He had also been a member of Nicollet Lion's Club, Nicollet Conservation Club, a branch past officer for AAL, and was active in Food for Friends of VINE.
His interests included his hobby farm and lake cabin, cards, fishing, hunting, people, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Ronald is survived by his wife Doris of rural Nicollet; four sons: Scott of St. Peter, Jonathon and wife, Jane, of Nicollet; Stuart of Farmington, and Christopher and special friend, Shari Hedler, of Mankato; one daughter, Jane Struss and husband, Timothy, of Courtland; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother, Roger Emich and wife, LuAnn, of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters and their husbands, Karen and Donald Hoese of Mayer, and Kathryn and Wendel Schroder of Plato; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 18, 10:30 a.m., at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mankato, with the Rev. Charles Ortloff officiating. Interment with military honors followed at Kern's Oak Grove Cemetery, Belgrade Township, Nicollet County, Minn.
Visitatation took place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at Mankato Mortuary, and continued for one hour before services at the church Friday.
Memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
