Ortwin E. Ernst
Ortwin E. Ernst, age 71 of rural Howard Lake, died accidentally Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999.
Ortwin was born in Buffalo Township on March 27, 1927, the son of Herman and Emma Tonn Ernst. He was baptized on May 1, 1927.
Herman was instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Lake, by the Rev. W.C. Nickels on July 27, 1941.
On Aug. 16, 1954, Ortwin was joined in holy marriage to Gladys Niesen Payne.
He worked for nearly 25 years at Advance Machine Company in Plymouth.
Ortwin is survived by his wife Gladys; children: Richard Payne of Howard Lake, James (Barbara) Payne of Brainerd, Sally Payne of Winsted, and Judy Muckey of Cokato; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by two brothers, Arnold (Mayta) Ernst and August (Mildred) Ernst; and a sister-in-law, Lydia Ernst, all of Buffalo; brothers-in -law and sisters-in-law, Frank Niesen, Mary Niesen, Edward Niesen, Mary Ann Niesen, and Joyce; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Ortwin was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Theodore Ernst; and a sister, Selma Marschel.
Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, 2 p.m., at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo with the Rev. Marvin E. Repinski officiating.
Friends called at the Peterson Chapel on Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service.
