Rev. Felix F. Fasching
The Rev. Felix F. Fasching, age 81 of Bird Island, and formerly of Winsted, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at Renville County Hospital, Olivia.
Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, Aug. 31, 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bird Island, with Bishop Raymond Lucker officiating. Burial was at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Winsted.
Visitation was Wednesday, Aug. 30, 4 to 9 p.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Felix was born July 23, 1919, on the family farm at Winsted, Minn., to Frank W. and Anna (Keintz) Fasching. He was baptized by the Rev. Rinke, and his godparents were Frank and Rose Kieser.
Felix received the sacrament of confirmation at Holy Trinity Grade School. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School, Winsted, in 1937.
In September 1937, Felix entered Nazareth Hall Preparatory Seminary, graduating in June 1940. He then entered St. Paul Seminary, where he completed his philosphical and theological courses.
He was ordained Aug. 18, 1945, at the Cathedral in St. Paul, by his Excellency, the Most Rev. John Gregory Murray, D.D., archbishop of St. Paul. Fasching's chaplain on the day of ordination was the Rev. Andrew J. Rinke, a former pastor of Holy Trinity Church, Winsted.
Fr. Fasching then served the following parishes: 1945 St. Mary of the Lake, White Bear Lake; 1948 St. Bernard, Cologne; 1950 St. Mary's Hospital, Minneapolis; 1950 St. Mary's, Bird Island; 1955 St. Andrew's, Fairfax; 1966 St. Mary's, Bird Island; 1980 Our Lady of the Lakes, Spicer, and St. Anthony's, Regal; retiring to Bird Island in June 1999.
Fasching enjoyed fishing, gardening, and being a "fix-it" person. He had a tremendous love of children, enjoyed music, and will be remembered for his quick wit and wonderful storytelling.
Survivors include his three brothers: Bernard (and Dorothy) Fasching of Bloomington, Leander (and Zoa) Fasching of Winsted; and Marinus (and Eileen) Fasching of Cologne; a sister, Margaret Chap of Silver Lake; three sisters-in-law: Therese Fasching of Winsted, Betty Fasching of California; and Derolla Fasching of Winsted; and 21 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers: William, Edwin, Alois, and Leo.
Arrangements were with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Bird Island.
