Joseph E. "Joe" Fogarty
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, from Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted for Joseph E. "Joe" Fogarty, 63, of Lester Prairie, with the Rev. Paul L. Wolf officiating.
Mr. Fogarty died on Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
Jessica Fogarty and Katie Justus served as readers for the Mass, and Mitchell Radtke and Myles Radtke were the servers.
Pallbearers were Donald Martin, Richard Speed, Patrick Oviatt, Jon Fogarty, Michael Fogarty and Sean Fogarty. Joe's eight grandsons served as honorary pallbearers. Interment was in the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Winsted.
Joseph was born in Lake Park, Iowa, on Dec. 26, 1935, to Philip "Ted" and Margaret H. (Sweeny) Fogarty.
As a young man, Joe farmed with his father near West Bend, Iowa, and also near Ayrshire, Iowa. He later farmed near Kimball, Minn.
On April 2, 1956, he married Estella Ann Martin in Lyle, Minn.
In 1971, Joe became the manager of the Farmers Co-Operative Elevator in Lester Prairie. He managed the elevator for 16 years.
Joe also owned and operated Fogarty Tax Service in Lester Prairie.
He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted and belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council No. 8253.
Joe loved his family and enjoyed golfing, woodworking and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Stella; children, Sherry (Gene) Ide of Waubun, Minn.; Jim (Rita) Fogarty of Inver Grover Heights, Kathy (Joe) Justus of Menomonie, Wis.; Nancy (Tom) Radtke of Silver Lake, Pat (Brenda) Fogarty of Silver Lake, Mike (Sharon) Fogarty of Auburn, Wash.; Michele Fogarty of Virginia Beach, Va., and Kari Fogarty of Lester Prairie; grandchildren, Krista Ide, Robert Fogarty, David Fogarty, Katie Justus, Martin Justus, James Justus, Mitchell Radtke, Myles Radtke, Jessica Fogarty, Felicia Fogarty, Colin Fogarty, Joseph Fogarty and Erin Fogarty.
He is further survived by sisters and brothers, Colleen (Bob) Speed of Webb, Iowa; Phyllis (Dwain) Oviatt of Spencer, Iowa; Pat (Betty) Fogarty of Parkville, Mo.; Teresa (Dale) Stephas of Dickens, Iowa; Alice (Jim) Martin of Worthington, Donna Finneman of Litchfield, Jim (Diane) Fogarty of Breezy Point, Tom (Mimi) Fogarty of Lake George, Minn.; Dan (Collene) Fogarty of Howard Lake and Bernie (John) Nelson of Watkins; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tim Fogarty; a brother-in-law, Jim Finneman; and a nephew, Phillip Oviatt.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted handled the arrangements.
