Myrtle Alma Freter

Funeral Services for Myrtle Alma Freter, 89, of Gaylord and formerly of Hamburg were held on Wednesday, March 10, from St. Paul's Evangelical Reformed Church of Hamburg, with the Rev. Henry P. Bowen officiating.

Mrs. Freter died on Sunday, March 7, 1999, at the Gaylord Lakeview Home.

Organist was Cindy Roepke, and the congregational hymns were "Softly and Tenderly," "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "Amazing Grace."

Pallbearers were Lynn Evenson, Mark Stockman, Bruce Kallhoff, Jeffrey Hebeisen, Jon Hebeisen and Steven Hebeisen. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Myrtle Alma Alretta Perbix was born in Young America on June 29, 1909, to Gottfried and Martha (Quast) Perbix. She was baptized on July 18, 1909, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Young America by the Rev. Baumhoeffner.

The family then moved to a farm near Hamburg, and she attended the District No. 41 rural school.

On May 25, 1923, she was confirmed at St. Paul's Evangelical Reformed Church by the Rev. Schmidt.

On Oct. 7, 1926, she was united in marriage to Ewald L. Freter at the St. Paul's Evangelical Reformed Church, and they resided on a farm near Blakely. After a few years, they moved to a farm they purchased near Green Isle.

In 1964, they retired and moved into the new home they built in Hamburg. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before Mr. Freter died in October 1980.

Mrs. Freter remained in Hamburg until 1992 when she moved to Peace Villa in Norwood Young America. She was a long-time member of St. Paul's Evangelical Reformed Church and was a charter member of its Women's Guild. She enjoyed working side by side with her husband while they operated the farm, and she enjoyed gardening, playing cards, visiting with friends, fishing and spending time with family.

Her health began to fail and in June of 1995 she entered the Gaylord Lakeview Home.

Survivors include two daughters, Mavis Stockman and husband, Howard, of Green Isle and Noreen Hebeisen and husband, Richard, of Gaylord; six grandchildren, Wendy Evenson and husband, Lynn, of Green Isle, Mark Stockman and wife, Mary, of NYA, Mary Kallhoff and husband, Bruce, of Arlington, Jeffrey Hebeisen and wife, Jean, of NYA, Jon Hebeisen and wife, Mary Beth, of Chanhassen; and Steven Hebeisen and wife, Jill, of Waconia; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Emma Smith, Alvina Latzke, Adeline Ahrens, all of Belle Plaine, and Elsie Guenzel of Winsted; as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Raymond Perbix; great-granddaughter, Sarah Evenson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ella Perbix, Charles and Sadie Krumery, Emil and Verdell Freter, Raymond Smith, Gustav Latzke and Wilmer Ahrens.

The Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel of NYA handled arrangements.
