Mabel K. Gatz
Mabel K. Gatz, age 84 of Watertown, was called to her eternal home Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at her residence.
Mabel was born May 1, 1915, at Cologne, Minn., the daughter of Alfred and Emma (Engelen) Young. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Reformed (UCC) Church, Bongards, Minn.
On June 3, 1938, Mabel married Oswald C. Gatz at St. John's Reformed Church by the Rev. O. P. Opperman.
Oswald and Mabel were members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Watertown Township, until they helped establish the St. Paul's Lutheran Church and School in Watertown.
They bought the Gatz homestead farm in 1946 and enjoyed farming for 32 years, before moving to Watertown.
Mabel is survived by her husband Oswald; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Harry Schlueter of Watertown; granddaughters, Michelle and James Anderson of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Melissa Gendron of Hopkins; sisters, Lydia Eggers and Emma Young, both of Red Wing; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cara Lynn Gendron; her parents, Alfred and Emma Young; and brothers, Lawrence and Edward Young.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, 2 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Watertown, with the Revs. Paul Krentz, Jeff Harter, and Bruce Laabs officiating. Interment was in Watertown Public Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Michelle Anderson, Melissa Gendron, James Anderson, Harry Schlueter, Orville Gatz, and David Eggers.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia.
