David Darrel Goebel obituary 9/17/99


Funeral services for David Darrel Goebel, 59, of Sumter
Township, McLeod County, were held on Sunday, Sept. 19 from Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Brownton, with the Rev. Merle Kitzmann officiating.
Mr. Goebel died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at the Glencoe
Area Health Center.
Organist was Mavis Smith, and the congregational hymns
were “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and “Beautiful Savior.”
Soloist Mavis Smith sang “How Great Thou Art.”
Pallbearers were Orland Witte, Robert Heil, Herman Miller,
Darwin Wagner, Arden Alsleben, Byron Kohls, Jon Bock and Roy Wagner. Interment
was in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Mr. Goebel was born on Sept. 21, 1939, at the Lutheran
Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis to Raymond and Carrie (Wiemann) Goebel.
He was baptized as an infant on Oct. 29, 1939, in Arlington, and was later
confirmed in his faith on May 16, 1954, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton.
Mr. Goebel attended country and parochial school in Brownton
and graduated from Brownton High School in the spring of 1958. He continued
his education at the University of Minnesota, School of Agriculture.
Mr. Goebel was united in marriage with Janice Duenow on
Nov. 5, 1960, at First Lutheran Church in Glencoe. The Goebels resided on
their farm site in Sumter Township, McLeod County.
He served in the National Guard from 1959 until the late
1960s. During his lifetime, Mr. Goebel worked as a welder, he owned and
operated a gravel pit, he worked at the Brownton Co-op Ag Center from 1963-79,
he was employed at Hutchinson Manufacturing for the past 19 years, and he
farmed in Penn Township, McLeod County.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He
also enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing. The Goebels shared nearly 39
years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Goebel of rural Brownton;
sons, Jeffrey Goebel and wife, Lori of Brownton, James Goebel and fiancee.
Bridgett Fredin of Hutchinson, and Jon Goebel of Brownton; daughter, Julie
Karels and husband, Steve, of Winsted; seven grandchildren, Allison, Melissa
and Joshua Goebel; Katelin and Carolin Goebel; and Mikayla and Blake Karels;
brother Stanley Goebel of Arlington; sister, Delores Hayes; mother-in-law,
Ruth Duenow of Glencoe; and brother-in-law, Dale Duenow and wife, Linda,
of Glencoe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law,
Otto Duenow.
