Clara Emma Frieda Goede
Clara Emma Frieda Goede, age 85 of Glencoe, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999.
Clara was born Nov. 30, 1913, in Bergen Township, McLeod County, Minn., the daughter of Carl and Ida (Trick) Domjahn. She was baptized Dec. 21, 1913, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie; and confirmed June 5, 1927, at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Iron Hub, near Aitkin, Minn.
Clara attended District No. 48 school, District No. 5 school, and Lester Prairie Public School through the eighth grade.
At the age of 16, she went to work as a maid in Duluth, made many friends, and enjoyed the cultural arts.
On June 6, 1934, Clara was united in marriage to Norman Goede at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Iron Hub. The union was blessed with two daughters.
The couple made their home in New Germany for a few months, then at Good Thunder Lake of Remer, Minn., and also at Deerwood and Waconia, before purchasing a farm near Lester Prairie in 1943.
Clara and Norman resided on the farm until 1993, when they moved to Orchard Estates, Glencoe.
As a past member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Lester Prairie, Clara was active in Ladies Aid, holding every office. She was also a volunteer at the Glencoe Area Health Center.
Clara was a devoted wife who worked side by side with her husband in the field and with the dairy operation. She enjoyed being outdoors, raising chickens, fishing, gardening, and in her later years, playing cards and doing activities with family and friends.
She will always be remembered for her love of life, her competitive spirit, and her willingness to lend a helping hand to all.
Clara died peacefully at Orchard Estates, having reached the age of 85 years, eight months, and 21 days.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, in January, 1996; and two brothers, Clarence and Clifford Domjahn.
Clara is survived by her daughters, Marlyn Goede of Mankato and Virginia Jerabek (husband, Steven) of Lester Prairie; seven grandchildren: Kathryn McIntire (husband, James) of Chanhassen, Bruce Fasching (wife, Anna) of Fresno, Calif.; Richard Fasching of Bozeman, Mont.; Jean Nelson (husband, Greg) of Springdale, Ariz.; Nancy Kettner of Glencoe; Jacqueline Fasching (fiance, Robert Franklin) of New Hope; and Wendy Ebert (husband, Antony) of Dassel.
She is further survived by 11 great-grandchildren: Tony Harms, Mandy Johnson, Chaz Froemming, Kayla Bailey, Bethany Nelson, Katie Nelson, Haley Nelson, Ele Fasching, Ethan Fasching, Emily McIntire, and Mckenzie Ebert; a sister-in-law, Ruth Goede of New Germany; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999, 2 p.m., from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Glencoe, with the Rev. Kurt Lehmkuhl officiating. The organist was Marjorie Hemmann. Soloist Glenda Schuft sang "Softly and Tenderly." Congregational hymns were "The Lord's My Shepherd" and "Onward Christian Soliders."
Clara's seven grandchildren were casket bearers. Interment was in the First Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation was Monday, Aug. 23, at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel, Glencoe.
