Elizabeth "Betty" Gritz
Elizabeth "Betty" Gritz, age 94 of Buffalo, and formerly of Waverly, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at the Park View Care Center, Buffalo.
Betty was born Oct. 16, 1905, in Woodland Township, Wright County, the daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth (Gebhardt) Tuckenhagen.
On July 14, 1926, Elizabeth and Bernard "Barney" Gritz were joined in holy marriage at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Barney preceded Betty in death on Dec. 9, 1999.
Betty was formerly employed as a clerk at Mellon's store and later, at Ed Murray's Meat Shop, both in Waverly.
She was a faithful member of the Church of St. Francis, Buffalo.
Betty is survived by two nephews, George T. (Monica) Tuckenhagen of Waverly, and Melvin Markson of Grand Rapids; three nieces, Evelyn Highland of Plymouth, Barbara Reeves of Corbin, Ky.; and Sue Tuckenhagen of Buffalo; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John "Jack" and Ernie Tuckenhagen; and a sister, Mary Jack.
A Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at the Church of St. Francis, Buffalo. The Rev. Charles L. Froehle was the celebrant, and interment followed at the Lakeview Cemetery.
Friends called from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo; with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
