Bernard R. "Barney" Gritz
Bernard R. "Barney" Gritz, age 94 of Buffalo and formerly of Waverly, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at the Buffalo Hospital.
Barney was born June 1, 1905, in Glasgow, Mont., the son of Martin and Anna (Marsolek) Gritz.
On Oct. 14, 1926, Barney was joined in holy marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Tuckenhagen at the Church of St. Mary,Waverly.
Barney was employed for many years at Berkner Milling, Waverly. He was also a faithful member of the Church of St. Francis, Buffalo.
He is survived by his wife Betty; brothers, Francis "Fritz" Gritz of Waverly and LeRoy "Hans" (Joan) Gritz of San Diego, Calif.; sisters, Luella Eckelberry and Lillian "Billie" (Ray) Ruzicka, all of Winsted; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Barney was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Anna Gritz; brothers, George Gritz and Raphael "Nooks" Gritz; and by his sisters, Anastasia "Dude" Schermann and Frances "Babe" Gritz.
A Mass of Christian Burial was at noon on Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Church of St. Francis, Buffalo. The Rev. Charles L. Froehle was the celebrant and interment followed at the Lakeview Cemetery.
Friends called at The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo, on Friday, Dec. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
James Hessel, Don Smith, James Groskreutz, Raymond Bayerl, Everett Boehlke and Lawrence "Pete" Gagnon served as the casket bearers.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
