Harry Edward Johann Gruenhagen
Funeral services for Harry Edward Johann Gruenhagen, 85 of Plato, were held on Sunday, March 14, from the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, with the Rev. Mark Guthmiller officiating.
Mr. Gruenhagen died on March 12, 1999, at St. Mary's Care Center in Winsted.
The organist was Catherine Templin, and the congregational hymn was "Amazing Grace." Pallbearers were Ron Schuth, Roger Schuth, Earl Schuth, George Droege, Brad Droege and Brian Droege. Interment was in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Helen Township.
Mr. Gruenhagen was born to Henry and Sophia (Wolters) Gruenhagen on Dec. 4, 1913, in Plato. He was baptized on Dec. 28, 1913, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Helen Township by the Rev.G. Fischer. He also was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran on May 8, 1927, by the Rev. Dysterhoeft. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church School and also the District 23 School until the eighth grade.
Mr. Gruenhagen lived his entire life on the farm south of Plato, the farm on which he was born and raised. During his life, he enjoyed doing a variety of things, but one thing he spent countless hours doing, was hunting. Everyone knew that every fall he would be in the woods deer hunting.
Mr. Gruenhagen is survived by his sisters-in-law, Malinda Gruenhagen of Glencoe, Mary Gruenhagen of Owatonna; nieces, Anne Schmidt and husband, Michael, of Marshfield, Wis., Sara Arthur and husband, John, of New Mexico, Betty Henderson of Lumberton, Texas, Lois Droege and husband, George, of Hamburg; special friends, Ron and Sue Schuth and family; also other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Clem and Wallace Gruenhagen; and his sister, Stella Gates.
The Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel of Glencoe handled arrangements.
