Florence Gruenhagen, age 91 of Howard Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, while hospitalized at Waconia.
Florence was born Dec. 4, 1907, in Howard Lake, the daughter of Otto and Minnie (Warnke) Schwalbe. She was baptized at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, by the Rev. Robert, and confirmed in her faith by the Rev. Oetjen on May 28, 1922, at the same church.
On Nov. 25, 1926, Florence was united in marriage to Fredrick Gruenhagen at St. James Church by the Rev. E. Kolbe. This union was blessed with the birth of seven children. The family made their home and living on a farm north of Howard Lake.
Florence was a member of the St. James Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Lydia Bible study group. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking and doing cross-stitch.
At the time of her death, Florence had reached the age of 91 years, 11 months and seven days.
She is survived by one daughter, Corene Oestrich and her husband, Dennis, of Howard Lake; one son, Gary Gruenhagen and his wife, Rita, of Howard Lake; seven grandchildren: Daniel Oestreich and wife, Teresa; Donald and wife, Tammy; and Dellarae Oestreich, all of Howard Lake; Debbie Gruenhagen of Silver Lake; Delight Wood and husband, Teak, of Cokato; DeeAnn Gruenhagen of Hutchinson; and Donna Gruenhagen of Buffalo; five great-grandchildren: Dwayne Oestreich, Trevor Oestreich, Kayley Oestreich, all of Howard Lake; Ashley Hartsuiker of Hutchinson; and Thomas Reardon of Buffalo; three sisters-in-law, Helen Schwalbe of Circle Pines, Ruth Gruenhagen, and Pearl Gruenhagen, both of Howard Lake; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Minnie Schwalbe; her husband Fredrick; five children: Gene, Mardell, Florren, Harlan, and a stillborn infant; and a brother, Clarence Schwalbe.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Revs. Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld officiating. The organist was Diane Johnson and Marge Stueven was the soloist. Interment was in the Howard Lake Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren: Daniel Oestreich, Donald Oestreich, Debbie Gruenhagen, Delight Wood, DeeAnn Gruenhagen, Donna Gruenhagen, and Dellarae Oestsreich.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Cokato.
