Edwin Carrol Halvorson
Funeral services for Edwin Carrol Halvorson, 93, of Glencoe were held Saturday, Feb. 19, from the Bethel Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with the Rev. Sherri Sandoz officiating.
Mr. Halvorson died on Feb. 15, 2000, at Glencoe Area Health Center.
The organist was Jan Smith. The congregational hymns were "The King Of Love My Shepherd Is," "Amazing Grace" and "On Our Way Rejoicing." The soloist sang "How Great Thou Art."
Pallbearers were Amy Carlton, Tracy Wilson, Nicole Schneider, Julie Coe, Maggie Coe, Peter Coe, Kevin Culver and Larry Coe. Interment was in the Bergen Cemetery in Bergen Township.
Mr. Halvorson was born to Edward and Carrie (Larson) Halvorson on June 11, 1906, in Bergen Township, McLeod County. He was baptized July 22, 1906, at the Bergen Norwegian Lutheran Church in Bergen Township by the Rev. J.E. Engebjtson and later confirmed there on June 24, 1920 by the Rev. R.M. Holif. Edwin attended School District 48 in rural Lester Prairie.
On Aug. 14, 1943, Mr. Halvorson was united in marriage with Olga Kramer at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Young America. The couple made their home for six years on the Halvorson family farm before purchasing their own farm on Highway 212 located just west of Plato.
In 1997, the Halvorsons sold their farm and moved to a home in Lester Prairie.
Mr. Halvorson enjoyed his grandchildren and everything that dealt with farming. His hobbies included bowling, square dancing, card playing and various types of hunting.
He was a lifelong member of the same congregation that was in Bergen Township which later became Bethel Lutheran.
Edwin is preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Curtis, 7 sisters: Mabel, Ella, Cora, Alice, Lillian, and two in infancy.
Survivors include his wife, Olga Halvorson of Glencoe; daughters, Doris H. Coe and husband, Larry, of Massachusetts, Jean M. Culver and husband, Kevin, of Oregon; grandchildren, Julie Coe of California, Maggie Coe of Massachusetts, Peter Coe of Massachusetts, Amy Carlton and husband, Bob, of Oregon, Tracy Wilson and husband, Greg, of California, Nicole Schneider and husband, Jeff, of Oregon; great-grandson, Ian Schneider; sister, Irene Schrupp of Glencoe; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen Huser of Lester Prairie, Laura and Cyrus Hatleli of Rushford, Hilton and Ruth Kramer of Norwood Young America; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel of Lester Prairie handled arrangements.
