Harold Hardel, age 79 of Middleville Township, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at his home.
Harold was born May 3, 1921, to Laura and Wilhelm Hardel in Kelso Township of Sibley County, Minn. He grew up in Kelso Township and attended school at St. John's Parochial and Rush River Country School.
Harold was baptized May 5, 1921, by the Rev. Ernest Spreugeler at St. John's Lutheran Church of Arlington, and confirmed at St. John's April 5, 1936, by the Rev. J. Busch.
In 1941, Harold was drafted into the U. S. Army and served overseas in the 3rd Army, 95th Division. He received the Purple Heart Award and was discharged in May, 1945.
On Sept. 19, 1945, Harold was married to Orma Willmsen at the parsonage in Brownton, Minn., by the Rev. Schmidt.
Harold and Orma first lived in LeSueur, where Harold was a truck driver. He also worked in the oil business in Texas for three years.
In 1961, they moved back to Cokato; and in 1964, they moved to Arlington, Minn. Then, in 1967, Harold and Orma moved to Albrights, where Harold worked as a farmer and carpenter.
Harold was a member of Cokato Legion Post 209 and participated on the church board several times. He was always willing to lend a hand.
Harold also enjoyed birdwatching and woodworking.
At the time of his death, Harold had reached the age of 79 years, one month, and 20 days.
He is survived by his wife Orma; sons: Keith of Cokato, Burton and Jan of Lakeville, Perry and friend, Cindy, of Prior Lake; and Hal and Kyle of Andover; grandchildren: Scott and Josette Hardel, Paula and Jon Solberg, Jeff and Byrnn Evanson, Pam and Dan King, Carl, Jeramie, Emily, Anna, and Michael Hardel; and great-grandchildren: Jacob, Joshua, and Jessica Solberg; Netasha Hardel, and Travis and Nicholas Evanson.
Harold is further survived by his brothers and sisters, Erine and Ruby Hardel, Bill and Eleanora Hardel, Ruth Sander, Laura Renneke, Della Kistner, and Ethel Mathwig.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lawrence; and sisters, Bernice Flantz and Augusta Kohls.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 27, 10 a.m., at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, Cokato. The Rev. Leatrice Teigen officiated, and music was provided by Vickie Berg. Interment was at the Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were Don Marketon, Jim Raymond, Danny Stokes, Dan McCain, Tim Palmquist, and Dan Barberg.
Visitation took place at the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Howard Lake, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 26.
