Beatrice K. Hausladen

Beatrice K. Hausladen, age 94 of Winsted, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at St. Mary's Care Center.

Beatrice was born in Montrose on March 24, 1905, the daughter of Lorentz and Martha Florek Janikula.

Beatrice's mother died when she was 12 years old, so she helped rear the family, which included eight brothers and two sisters. This hindered her from completing her education, but she educated herself. Beatrice made sure her own children had educational opportunities.

Beatrice worked in the Watertown Canning Factory and had a domestic job for a wealthy family in Wayzata. Her experience there was beneficial for the rest of her life.

In 1926, Beatrice was joined in holy marriage to Henry Hausladen Sr. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Watertown. They had six children.

Beatrice lived on the Hausladen Century farm from 1926 until 1994 when she entered St. Mary's Care Center. She loved living on the farm and especially enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She had many strawberries and raspberries, and she raised lots of chickens. Crafts, crocheting, and painting figurines (before the days of ceramics) were also some of her interests.

A lifetime member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Winsted, Beatrice was also a member of the Council of Catholic Women, the St. Anne's Society, and Holy Family Council #204. At Holy Trinity, she participated in many activities including making baptismal gowns for several years.

After Henry's death in 1962, Beatrice had to take over managing the farm, which was a difficult task. It was necessary for her to learn how to drive a car and she passed her driver's test with flying colors at 57 years of age, following the driving rules "to the letter" until she gave it up at age 80.

Her next challenge was to become familiar with banking and bookkeeping. The Century Farm Celebration in 1979, including a Mass and family reunion, was an important event for her.

Beatrice's faith, children and grandchildren were the most important concerns of her life. She has 34 grandchildren 63 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and mother, Beatrice was preceded in death by sons, Henry F. Hausladen Jr. and Jerry Hausladen, all of New Germany; her father, eight brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her children, Eugene (Leone) Hausladen, Betty (Glenn) Diers, all of Winsted; Marie (Virgil) Zeidler of Howard Lake, and Jim (Dianna) Hausladen of New Germany; a daughter-in-law; Alice Hausladen of New Germany; and four sisters-in-law: Loretta Scherer, Ellen Janikula, Connie Janikula and Mary Janikula.

A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, March 25, 10:30 a.m., at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Winsted. The Revs. Paul L. Wolf and Martin F. Rath, OSB, were the concelebrants. Interment followed at the Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 24, with a combined St. Anne and Holy Family rosary at 4:30 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 8:15 p.m.

Charles Hausladen, David Hausladen, Andy Hausladen, James Hausladen, Chris Zeidler and Bruce Schurmann served as casket bearers.

The Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, served the family.
