Florence A. "Fuzz" Hertzog
Florence A. "Fuzz" Hertzog, age 88 of Freeport and formerly of Winsted, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at the Melrose Hospital.
Florence was born Sept. 15, 1911, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Kruger) Krekelberg, in Dent, Minn.
On Jan. 10, 1934, Florence and Paul Hertzog were joined in holy marriage at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Winsted. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Paul and Florence owned and operated Hertzog's Bar for many years in Winsted. The couple later owned and operated the Starlite Bar, Freeport.
Florence was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport, and was a former member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Winsted. She was active in the Sacred Heart Christian Mothers.
Florence was a former member of the Chix-Chix Card Club.
She is survived by her husband Paul; her children, Joan M. Kegler of Savage, Lowell A. Hertzog of Watertown, and Thomas R. (Deb) Hertzog of Freeport; a son-in-law, Gordon J. Cochran of Howard Lake; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Tom Krekelberg of Long Beach, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends.
Florence is preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Rose Cochran on March 18, 1998; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; a son-in-law, Raymond Kegler, a daughter-in-law, Constance Hertzog; her parents; sisters, Frances Ochu and Alma Thompson; and brothers, Alfred "Fritz" Krekelberg and Edward Krekelberg.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Winsted. The Revs. Richard Krekelberg and William Krekelberg were concelebrants for the Mass. The organist was Lavon Kielkucki.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, on Wednesday, May 17, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and also on Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Sue Cochran, LouAnn Hertzog, Mary Byrd, Amy Hertzog, Linda Stueven, Laura Kegler, and Lisa Shea served as honorary casket bearers.
Active casket bearers were Richard Cochran, David Cochran, Tim Cochran, Mike Cochran, Jim Hertzog, Brian Hertzog, Charles Kegler, and Curtis Kegler.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
