Linus C. Hertzog
Linus C. Hertzog, age 83 of Winsted, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
Linus was born on the Hertzog homestead, Victor Township, Wright County on May 18, 1917, the son of John and Bertha (Fasching) Hertzog.
On May 31, 1938, Linus and Magdalen Ann Lachermeier were joined in holy marriage at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Winsted. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Linus engaged in farming his entire life.
A life-long member of the Holy Trinity parish, Linus was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #8253.
He is survived by his wife Magdalen; sons, Clifford J. (Catherine) Hertzog of Montrose, and Bert J. Hertzog and fiancee (Sharon Pingree) of Winsted; daughter, Mary M. (Tim) Purcell of Winsted; daughter-in-law, Terri Hertzog Wiederholt; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Linus is further survived by aunts, Isabelle Brose and Rose "Babe" Otto; an uncle, Paul Hertzog; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, George "Butch" (Elmerine) Lachermeier, Ann Boyle, Ben (Marcella "Sally") Lachermeier, Catherine Lachermeier, Daisy Binder, Florentine Lachermeier, and Alice Lachermeier; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Reginald John Hertzog in 1986; an infant sister, Mary; and brothers, Donald and Lambert.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, Aug. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Winsted. The Rev. Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant. Following the Mass, Linus' body was conveyed to Holy Trinity Cemetery in a wagon drawn by Belgian horses.
Friends called from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted. A Knights of Columbus rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m., followed by a parish prayer service at 8 p.m. A special prayer was given by Chaplain Jeff Harter.
Special music for the Mass was by Sherry Hertzog and Chuck Thiel. The lector was grandson John Hertzog. Granddaughters Kelli Scherping, Traci Hertzog and Kirstina Quast were gift-bearers.
Casket bearers were grandsons, Dean Hertzog, Lee Hertzog, Scott Hertzog. Randy Hertzog, Barry Hertzog, Neil Hertzog, Jason Hertzog, and Cory Hertzog. Grandsons Ronald Hertzog and Jonathan Quast served as honorary casket bearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
