Arthur G. Jaekel obituary, 3/30/2000


Arthur G. Jaekel, age 80 of Gansevoort, N.Y., and formerly
of Maple Plain and Buffalo, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, in Saratoga Springs,
N.Y.
Arthur was born in Minnetrista Township, Hennepin County,
on April 18, 1919, the son of Louis and Dora (Lohrke) Jaekel.
He was born again to be God’s own child by the “washing
of water in the Word” on May 25, 1919, by the Rev. Paul Beck at St.
Peter Lutheran Church in rural Watertown.
Arthur was also instructed in the Lutheran catechism and
confirmed in the Christian faith on March 20, 1932, by the Rev. Karl Rudolf
at the same church. His confirmation memory verse was Romans:1-16.
Art graduated from Mound High School in 1936 and was the
valedictorian of his class. He later attended St. Cloud State Teacher’s
College for two years.
On Nov. 8, 1941, Arthur was joined in holy marriage to
Irma L. Lenz at the parsonage of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Montrose. The Rev. Weyland officiated at the wedding ceremony. Their marriage
was blessed with a son, James.
Arthur was a dairy farmer in rural Maple Plain for many
years. Later, he became the executive director of Hennepin County Agricultural
Stabilization Conservation Service of the United States Department of Agriculture.
He retired from this position in 1978.
Before his move to New York in 1999, Arthur was a life
member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Watertown Township, Carver Co. He served
his Lord and the church in many capacities including president of the congregation,
treasurer, elder and Lutheran High School treasurer. He was also active
in the Lutheran Laymen’s League and was president of the local Aid Association
for Lutherans branch for 25 years.
Arthur served for 21 years as treasurer for the Township/
Village/City of Minnetrista.
Arthur enjoyed gardening and other outdoor activities.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Irma L. Jaekel;
a son, the Rev. James A. (Janice) Jaekel of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; grandchildren,
Jennifer Jaekel and fiance David Scheffel, and Jonathan “Jon”
Jaekel; sisters-in-law, Fern Bodin of Buffalo and Pat Lenz of Winsted; nieces,
nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Arthur was preceded in death by his father in 1938, his
mother in 1966; brothers, Alvin Jaekel in 1943 and Alfred Jaekel in 1946.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 4, 11 a.m., at St.
Peter Lutheran Church, Watertown Township. The Rev. Jay B. Klein officiated
and interment followed at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends called at the church Monday, April 3, from 4 to
8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. Joan Luchsinger was the organist
for the funeral service. “For All The Saints Who from Their Labors
Rest,” “Our God, Our Help in Ages Past,” “I Know That
My Redeemer Lives,” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”
were sung as congregational hymns.
Robert Bodin, Alvin Bodin, John “Jack” Bodin,
Gary Lenz, Darrel Paulerud and the Rev. Larry Vigen served as the casket
bearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
