Clara L. Jilek
Funeral services for Clara L. Jilek, 84, of Silver Lake were held on Thursday, May 27, from the Holy Family Church, Silver Lake, with the Rev. Robert Mraz officiating.
Mrs. Jilek died on Sunday, May 23, 1999, at Glencoe Area Health Center's long-term care facility.
Organist was Alice Nowak and the Holy Family Adult Choir sang "Amazing Grace," "Just A Closer Walk With Thee," "Here I Am Lord" and "How Great Thou Art."
Pallbearers were Douglas Jilek, Bonnie Jilek, Jerry Jilek, Renee Jilek, Shari Holman and Steve Meyer. Honorary pallbearers were Sheila Jilek, Lisa Jilek, Dave Holman and Carmen Meyer. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Clara Pokornowski was born on Sept. 10, 1914, in Hale Township, McLeod County, to Anton and Michalina (Kasprzyk) Pokornowski. She attended District 46 country school and St. Adalbert's Catholic School.
Mrs. Jilek was a homemaker and farmed with her husband, Ernest.
She married Ernest Jilek on June 8, 1936, at St. Adalbert's Catholic Church in Silver Lake.
Her hobbies included cooking, gardening, canning, dancing, bingo, getting together with family and friends.
Mrs. Jilek was a member of the Council of Catholic Women, Rosary Society, Degree of Honor Catholic Workman. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Family.
Survivors are her son, Loren Jilek and wife, Miriam, of Lester Prairie; daughter, Janet Meyer and husband Frances, of Bloomington; sister-in-law, Mae Pokornowski of Chicago; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joe and John Pokornowski; and sisters, Mary, Ann and Louise.
The Maresh Funeral Home of Silver Lake handled arrangements.
