Kent Alvin Kappes
Kent Alvin Kappes, age 39 of Lester Prairie, died accidently on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999 in Dakota County.
Kent was born in Virginia, Minn. on June 5, 1959, the son of Alvin E. and Dorothy Ford Kappes. He was baptized June 21, 1959 at the Church of St. Pius X in Babbitt, Minn.; and confirmed in the Christian faith at the same church May 25, 1976.
Kent graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Babbitt in 1977.
On June 19, 1982, he was joined in holy marriage to Deborah Ernst at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Babbitt. God blessed their marriage with three sons: Lee, Eric, and Adam.
For the past 14 years, Kent has been employed as a truck driver by Automated Building Components-Lyman Lumber Division in Long Lake.
Kent was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. He was also an 18-year member of the Iron Cross Motorcycle Club and was a former Lester Prairie Little League coach.
Kent is survived by his wife Deborah; sons, Lee Michael Kappes, age 14; Eric Kent Kappes, age 11; and Adam Phillip Kappes, age 8; his father, Alvin Kappes of Lester Prairie; sisters and brothers-in-law and their families: Kelly (Jeff) Hecksel and Ashley of Lester Prairie and Kyle (Dave) Stella and Jeff and Joe of Babbitt; and a brother and sister-in-law and family, Kevin (Therese) Kappes and Nicole, Amy, and Michelle of Embarrass.
He is further survived by his parents-in-law, Stanley and Dorothy Ernst of Lester Prairie; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and families, Gary (Denise) Ernst and Brady of Lester Prairie; Rick (Kris) Ernst and Bree, Dana, and Jason of Exeland, Wis.; Brian (Louis) Ernst and Cecily, Zachary, Jack, and Jana of Chaska; and Joan Thompson and Nick and Angela of Superior, Wis.; his godparents, Leonard and Karen Kappes; aunts, uncles, many other relatives and friends.
Kent was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Kappes, on Feb. 28, 1990.
Funeral services were Sunday, Feb. 7, 3 p.m., at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Gerald A. Schwanke officiating. Interment followed at St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in Bergen Township.
Friends called at the church on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m., and also on Sunday, one hour prior to the funeral service. A prayer service was held at the church Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
"On Eagle's Wings," "I Am But A Stranger Here," and "Beautiful Savior" were sung as congregational hymns.
Dale Santa, Wes Lines, Keith Clasen, Mike Strei, Jeff Rathkamp, and Paul Zillmer served as casket bearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
