Herman A. Karels
Herman A Karels, age 87 of Winsted, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
He was born in Hollywood Township, Carver County, on June 25, 1912, the son of Henry and Othilla Heimerl Karels.
On Nov. 20, 1934, Herman was joined in holy marriage to Adeline Specken at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Cologne. The Rev. Andrew Reinke officiated at the wedding ceremony. God blessed their marriage with a daughter, Lorraine.
After their marriage, Herman and Adeline lived in South St. Paul for 20 years, and Herman was employed at the Armour, Inc.
They then moved back to Winsted where Herman engaged in farming southwest of Winsted for 17 years. In 1968, Herman retired from farming, and he and Adeline moved into the city of Winsted.
Herman was a faithful member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Winsted. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #8253 .
Herman is survived by his wife Adeline of Winsted; seven grandchildren: Karen Wraspir of Fridley and friend, Russ; Jim (Carol) Mickolichek of Winsted, Marilyn (Jeff) Smith of Lester Prairie, Kris (Jamie) Olson of Cosmos, Gerald Mickolichek of Howard Lake and friend, Debbie; Susan (K.C.) Conito of Summerset, Wis.; and Tammy (Mark) Kottke of Waconia; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by a son-in-law, Tom (Karen) Mickolichek of Winsted; a brother, Leo (Sophie) Karels of Plymouth; and many other relatives and friends.
Herman was preceded in death by his daughter, Lorraine K. Mickolichek on Nov. 10, 1979; his parents; six brothers, and three sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, March 14, 10:30 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Winsted. The Rev. Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Special music for the Mass was provided by Lavon Kielkucki.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, on Monday, March 13, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Knights of Columbus rosary was recited at 7 p.m., and a parish prayer service followed at 7:30 p.m.
Roman Widmer, Reuben Kieser, Alan Otto, Roger Moilanen, Alphonse Fiecke and Roger Guennigsman served as casket bearers.
Honorary casket bearers were Bryan Cafferty and Bill Fynboh.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
