Orlyn (Orly) H. Knuth
Orlyn (Orly) H. Knuth, age 57 of Howard Lake, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at his home Wednesday, March 29, 2000, after a year-and-a-half-long battle with cancer.
Orlyn was born Sept. 22, 1942, in Buffalo, to Erwin and Ellen (Hill) Knuth. He graduated from Grove City High School in 1960 and served four years in the Naval Air Reserve.
On April 3, 1970, Orlyn married Therese (Terry) Lang. They made their home in Howard Lake.
Orlyn worked for Sterner Lighting, Winsted, for over 32 years.
A gentle man with a sense of humor that touched everyone, Orlyn winked, laughed and joked with family members, even in his final days. He had moved away from the farm life he grew up with, but always had time to throw a few bales and "play farmer" with Kate and Jake.
He was an enthusiastic (if not accomplished) golfer, bowler, and fisherman. He had just gotten Collin into fishing last summer, and this year, was planning on making him another Tiger Woods. He treasured his time with family and friends, and especially loved when Collin, Noah, and Jenna would come see "Grampa Orlyn."
Orlyn and Terry enjoyed time at their cabin south of Park Rapids and were always happy when friends or relatives came to "catch the big one."
Orlyn is survived by his wife Terry of Howard Lake; daughter and son-in-law, Kate and Jason Benson of Annandale; daughter, Karie, and special friend, Troy Sandin of Delano; and grandchildren: Collin, Noah, and Jenna Benson.
He is further survived by his mother, Ellen Knuth, and sister, Barb Keller, both of Litchfield; brother and sister-in-law, Dwain and Peg Knuth of Ashland, Wis.; brother-in-law, Doug Berg of Watertown; mother-in-law, Delores Lang of Howard Lake; father-in-law, Denny Lang of Annandale; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kris Lang-Shasky and John Shasky of Minneapolis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rick and Barb Lang of Clearwater; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends..
He was preceded in death by his father, Erwin Knuth; and a sister, Kathy Berg.
Funeral services were Monday, April 3, 2 p.m., at the Albion Evangelical Free Church, Cokato, with the Rev. Ralph Erickson officiating. Music was provided by niece, Jennifer (Stueven) Berg as soloist, and Linda Groos, accompanist.
Visitation was Sunday, April 3, 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers were Doug Telecky, Chuck Kirby, Ken Lehner, Rick Menden, Pat Borrell, and Kelli Kulseth.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Howard Lake.
