Warren Edwin Koenig
Warren Edwin Koenig, age 79 of Howard Lake, died Thursday, May 10, 2000, in St. Cloud.
Warren was born in Howard Lake May 2, 1921, to Edwin and Bertha (Van Offeren) Koenig. He was baptized and confirmed at the Walker United Methodist Church, Howard Lake.
He graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1939 and was active in basketball and track. He then attended Hamline College and graduated with a business degree.
Warren served his country for 3 1/2 years during World War II as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was then recalled for an 18-month tour during the Korean Conflict, where he served as 1st Lieutenant in Panama.
Warren married Harriet Hedtke in February 1944. To this union, two daughters were born. They were married 45 years, until Harriet passed away in 1989.
Warren worked for Commercial Credit Corporation and retired from there after 28 1/2 years of service.
Winters were spent in Arizona and summers were spent at a cabin in Longville. He spent many summers there both as a child and as an adult. Warren loved the great outdoors, fishing, golfing, and many other sports. He was an incredible story teller and kidder. He enjoyed fun and had a great laugh.
At the time of his death, Warren had reached the age of 79 years and eight days.
He is survived by his companion of many years, Mary Thompson of Howard Lake; daughters, Barb (John) Howes of Stewartville, and Beverly (Paul) Baker of Minnetrista; six grandchildren; and a brother, Dale (Betty) Koenig of Brooklyn Center.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Services were conducted Saturday, May 13, at Walker United Methodist Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Marvin Repinski officiating. Music was provided by Mae Wannarka, Debbie Johnson, and Bonnie Seegmiller. Interment was at Howard Lake City Cemetery.
