Dorothy Louisa Kroells
Funeral services for Dorothy Louisa (Mrs. Melvin) Kroells, age 82 of Lester Prairie, were Wednesday, Sept. 6, from the Evangelical United Church of Christ, Lester Prairie. Dorothy died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Glencoe Area Health Center, Glencoe.
She was born Feb. 4, 1918, in Helen Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Fred and Dora (Dau) Wuetherich. Dorothy was baptized March 10, 1918, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Plato, by the Rev. Zielinski; and confirmed there March 20, 1932, by the Rev. Bunge.
Dorothy was raised on a farm and attended the Plato School through the eighth grade.
On June 30, 1937, she was united in marriage to Melvin H. Kroells at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Plato, by the Rev. Bunge. They made their home in Lester Prairie for a couple of years before moving to St. Paul in 1940.
After Melvin's discharge at the end of World War II, they moved back to Lester Prairie, where they operated a farm until 1978, when they retired and moved into town.
Dorothy's hobbies included homemaking, sewing, gardening, and flowers, as well as helping care for the livestock during their years on the farm.
Dorothy and Melvin enjoyed traveling, visiting many interesting places and attending many annual reunions with old WW II Army buddies.
Most of all, Dorothy loved God's beauty in nature, and watching her grandchildren grow, sharing in their joys, sorrows, hopes, and dreams.
In her church, Dorothy served in many ways including two terms as Women's Guild president, one term as secretary, and also as a church council secretary, a Sunday school teacher, and a vacation Bible school teacher.
Recently, Dorothy had been a resident at the Glencoe Area Health Center. At the time of her death, she had reached the age of 82 years, six months, and 27 days.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Robert Warzyniak; a sister, Alvina Fenske; and a brother, Harold Wuetherich.
Survivors include her husband Melvin; daughter, Sharon Williamson (husband, Richard) of Minnetonka; son, Daryl Kroells (wife, Linda) of Gainsboro, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren: Rebecca Warzyniak of Long Beach, Calif.; Kristin Warzyniak of Chicago, Ill.; Michael Warzyniak of Minneapolis, Heather Sibinski (husband, Scott) of Ocala, Fla.; Brenna Kroells of Raleigh, N.C.; Andrew Williamson (wife, Mary) of Carver, and Kent Williamson of Burnsville.
She is further survived by two sisters, Stella Templin of Winsted, and Lydia Kruschke (husband, Marvin) of Lester Prairie; a brother, Fred Wuetherich (wife, Dorothy) of Lester Prairie; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Hilda Dose, Ella Zuehl, and Eveline Wendorf, all of Lester Prairie; and Marcella and Vernon Jans of Maple Lake; as well as other relatives and friends.
The Rev. John Hogue officiated at the 11 a.m. funeral service. The organist was Marie Eischens, and soloist Marvin Westermann sang, "Softly And Tenderly." Congregational hymns were "Our God, Our Help in Ages Past" and "He Leadeth Me."
Visitation was Tuesday evening at Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel, Lester Prairie. Interment was in the Lester Prairie City Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Emmert Dose, Rollie Bruckschen, Wayne Templin, Earl Wendorf, Wilton Stuedemann, and Kerry Wuetherich.
