Harlan Duane Krohn
Funeral services for Harlan Duane Krohn, 65, of San Francisco Township were held on Saturday, Feb. 26, from West Union Lutheran Church in Carver, with the Rev. James P. Meyer officiating.
Mr. Krohn died at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000.
Pallbearers were Duane Krohn, Jason Heitz, Robert Krohn, Kevin Heitz, Ronald Krohn, Andrew Larson and John Larson. Interment was in West Union Lutheran Cemetery in Carver.
Mr. Krohn was born on August 26, 1934, in Bergen Township to John and Hilda (Hoernemann) Krohn. He was baptized on Sept. 16, 1934, and confirmed on March 21, 1943, at St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Plato. He was raised on a farm in rural Plato, attending the local schools there.
Mr. Krohn worked and lived for a year with an aunt and uncle in California.
On June 27, 1953, he was united in marriage to Elvera Marie Peterson at the West Union Lutheran Church, in Carver, by the Rev. J. A. Burman. They resided in Eden Prairie where they had five children.
In 1968 the family relocated to rural Cologne in San Francisco Township.
Mr. Krohn worked as an over-the-road truck driver. He accomplished a three-million-mile safe driving record, having driven for Land O Lakes, Munsingwear, Marquette, Northwest Delivery, Johnson Block and Camas. He later drove for construction work.
In the 1960s he drove in the truck rodeos winning five state championships and a second place championship in the rodeo nationals.
Mr. Krohn lived to hunt and fish, teaching each son and son-in-law to do the same. He also loved to garden and keep his yard looking like a park. He enjoyed eating all his fish and game, but took great pride in sharing it with his neighbors, especially the elderly.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Krohn, his mother, Hilda Krohn Rolf and infant brother David Krohn.
He is survived by his wife, Elvera; children, Duane (Carrie) of Greenville, Texas, Ron (Pat) of Howard Lake, Robert (June) of Carver, Diane (John) Larson of Hamburg, and Pat Huckabone and special friend John Lahood of Shakopee; 15 grandchildren, Tracy (Matt) Satriano of Flint, Texas, Hope (Mark) Anderson of Mineola, Texas, Kris and Kari Krohn of Howard Lake, Colleen Krohn of Chaska, Jessica Krohn of Stewart, Brett Krohn of Carver, Shelly (Tony) Winters of Arlington, Andrew Larson of Hamburg, Jason Heitz of Chaska, Kevin Heitz and Steven Huckabone of Shakopee, Vanessa, Nicole and Steph Muri of Carver; and five great-grandchildren.
He also leaves behind brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald (Marilyn) Krohn of Bullhead, Ariz., Kenneth Krohn of Las Vegas, Nev., and Richard (Bernice) Krohn of Owatonna; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Walter (Rita) Peterson of Carver, Deloris Irwin and special friend Lee Hamness of Henning, Phyllis (Francis) Loerzel of Eden Prairie, Marilyn (Arne) Braun of Cologne and Dale Peterson of Waconia; and many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
