Merva LaVae Landin
Merva LaVae Landin, age 74 of Winsted and formerly of Lester Prairie, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
Merva was born in Kimball Township, Jackson County, on Dec. 19, 1924, the daughter of Aaron and Ingher Hansen Rippel. She was baptized on April 13, 1925 and instructed in the Lutheran Cathechism and confirmed in the Christian faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jackson County, on May 28, 1939.
On Sept. 8, 1944, Merva was joined in holy marriage to Roy J. Landin at the Kimball Lutheran Church in Jackson County. God blessed their marriage with eight children.
Merva was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie and its ladies aid. She was also very active in the craft club at St. Mary's Apartments in Winsted.
Survivors include her husband Roy Landin; children: Lois (Curt) Asche of New Hope, Twylla (Weldon) Baumann of New Germany, Val Landin of Hutchinson, Kent Landin of Winsted, Kurt (Denise) Landin of Glencoe, Holly (Steve) Kelzer of Oostburg, Wis.; and Kim (Deb) Landin of Waconia; grandchildren: Steve (Krista) Asche, Ryan (Tracy) Asche, Mike Baumann, Cory (Brenda) Baumann, Robbie (Paula) Baumann, Wendy Landin, Brian Landin, Karen (Jerad) Nelson, Sharon Landin, Adam Landin, Matthew Landin, Christopher Guggemos, and Meghan Guggemos; and great-grandchildren: Kyle Asche, Becca Baumann, Trevor Baumann, and Andrea Nelson.
She is further survived by sisters, Violet Satter of Trimont and Mavis (Don) Persson of Bella Vista, Ark.; a brother, Kenneth Rippel of Fairmont; sisters-in-law, Marie Bauer, Gladys Rigenhagen, Doris Foster, and Ruth Landin; an uncle; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Merva was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Ingher Rippel; a daughter, Dawn Guggemos in 1993; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Landin in 1993; a grandson, Joshua Landin in 1997; and her parents-in-law, Ernest and Millie Landin.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 20, 11 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Grant T. Bode officiating. Interment followed at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted on Friday, Feb. 19 from 4 - 8 p.m. and also at the church on Saturday morning, one hour prior to the funeral service.
Jane Holasek was the organist for the funeral service and Chuck Thiel was the vocalist. "Just as I Am, Without One Plea," "In the Garden," "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" were sung as congregational hymns.
Steve Asche, Ryan Asche, Mike Baumann, Cory Baumann, Robbie Baumann, Brian Landin, Adam Landin, and Christopher Guggemos served as the casket bearers.
Honorary casket bearers were Krista Asche, Tracy Asche, Brenda Baumann, Paula Baumann, Wendy Landin, Karen and Jerad Nelson, Sharon Landin, Matthew Landin, Meghan Guggemos, Kyle Asche, Becca Baumann, Trevor Baumann, and Andrea Nelson.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
