Martha M. Libra

Mass of Christian Burial for Martha M. Libra, 87, of Glencoe was held Wednesday, Dec. 29, from the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, with the Rev. Eugene Lozinski officiating.

Mrs. Libra died on Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999.

The pianist was Jeanne Judge Keane, and playing the trumpet was Rick Keane. Grandson Jonathan Pahl sang "The Lord's Prayer." The congregational hymns were "Hark, The Herald Angels Sing," "Be Not Afraid," "Come To Her Aid" and "Angels We Have Heard On High."

Pallbearers were Doug Portele, Russell Portele, LeRoy Schlangen, Raymond Fiala, Tom Fiala, Roger Ostlie, Charles Johnson and Jonathan Pahl. The honorary pallbearers were Doug Kranz, Dean Howe, Peter Marcus, Greg Fiala and Myron Tupa. Interment was in the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery.

Martha M. Fiala was born to Joseph and Amelia (Svoboda) Fiala on Oct. 13, 1912, in Rich Valley Township, McLeod County. She received the sacraments of baptism and confirmation at the Church of St. Joseph in Silver Lake. She attended District 6 country school in rural Silver Lake.

On July 1944, she was united in marriage with Howard J. Libra at St. Joseph's by the Rev. Tomek. The couple made their home in Glencoe.

Mrs. Libra was a charter member of the Glencoe VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Church of St. George and later the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, its Council of Catholic Women and Prayer Group.

Mrs. Libra enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening. She especially enjoyed her three grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Howard of Glencoe; son, Roger Libra of Glencoe; daughters: Jeanne Pahl and husband, Wendell, of Pine Island, Sharon Youngbauer and husband, Dan, of New Hope; grandchildren, Jonathan Pahl of Pine Island, Peter Youngbauer of New Hope, Patrick Youngbauer of New Hope; sisters, Helen Tupa of Glencoe, Elizabeth Howe of Glencoe, Emily Portele Olson of Glencoe; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Francis and Leonard Fiala.

The Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel of Glencoe handled funeral arrangements.
