Herbert J. Litfin
Funeral services for Herbert J. Litfin, age 81 of Waconia, were Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waconia. Herbert died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at Auburn West, Waconia.
Herbert was born Nov. 12, 1917, at Victoria, Minn., the son of Albert and Mary M. (Segner) Litfin. He was baptized into the Christian faith and confirmed in 1944 at Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage, Waconia, by the Rev. Robert Heyne.
On May 9, 1937, Herb married Elnor B. Manteuffel at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waconia, by the Rev. William Schneider.
Herb was co-owner of Waconia Excavating with Edward Schneider and later, purchased the company. He also did road maintenance in Laketown Township for many years.
Herb also served on the Trinity Cemetery Board.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: DeWayne and Julie Litfin, Mary and Roland Reinke, Roger and Joyce Litfin, Dianne and Mike Kosek, Sharon and LeRoy Borg, Donald and Vickie Litfin, and Debbie and Tom Bechtel, all of Waconia; a son-in-law, Victor Gilster, Waconia; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Herb is further survived by foster grandchildren, Joan and Jessica Carlson; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roy and Vi Manteuffel of Bellingham, Wash.; Marie Manteuffel of Waconia, Betty Manteuffel of Chanhassen, and Harriet Manteuffel of Prior Lake; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elnor; a daughter, Donna Mae Gilster; grandchildren, Sara, Tara and Timothy Kosek; parents, Albert and Mary Litfin; a sister, Marie Guettler; and a brother, Raymond Litfin.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Dean E. Mahlum and Peter Peitsch officiating. Interment was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Waconia.
Casket bearers were his grandchildren: Jodi Reinke, Cynthia Reinke, Cheryl Sutherland, Jeff Borg, Jason Litfin, Steven Litfin, Mark Gilster, Mike Gilster, Mike Litfin, David Litfin, Vicki Stahlke, Jackie Scheewind, Stephanie Genske, Lisa Litfin, Michelle Gilster, Crissy Roeglin, and Jenny Litfin.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia.
