August A. "Spitz" Litfin
August A. "Spitz" Litfin, age 91 of Winsted, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at the Glencoe Area Health Center.
He was born in Winsted Township, McLeod County, on Dec. 24, 1907, the son of Paul and Josephine Paul Litfin.
On Nov. 21, 1927, August was joined in holy marriage to Sophie Deidrick at the rectory of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
For several years, August had a canned milk route west of Winsted. He later went to work at the Green Giant Company in Winsted and retired after 38 years of employment.
Following his retirement from Green Giant, "Spitz" established a glass company in Winsted.
Spitz was a lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Sophie E. Litfin; grandchildren: Doug Robison and Barb Robison, both of Winsted; Patricia (Larry) DeWitt of Hutchinson; Mary (Steve) Paschke of Watertown; Carol (Ronnie) Schwanke of Glencoe; Cynthia (Dan) Noga of Hutchinson and Julie Fratzke of Eau Claire; 13 great-grandchildren; eight great- great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, David Fratzke of Peoria, Ariz.; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
August was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Josephine Litfin; four children: Germaine Litfin, four months old; Marlin Litfin, four years old; Arlene Robison in 1964, and Charmaine Fratzke in 1997; a son-in-law, Frank Robison in 1980; and by two brothers and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, Sept. 2, 1 p.m., at the chapel of St. Mary's Care Center in Winsted. The Rev. Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, on Wednesday, Sept. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m.
Richard Genty served as the Mass lector. Vickie Berg was the organist. Soloist Kathy Hendrickson sang "Precious Memories."
Harold "Pete" Weibel, Bob Kegler, Donald Marshall, Leonard Rozeske, Paul Neumann and Jim Habisch served as casket bearers.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
