Mabel Minnie Mahlstedt

Mabel Minnie Mahlstedt, age 87 of Cokato and formerly of Howard Lake, died Monday, May 22, 2000.

Mabel was born April 15, 1913, to Fred and Bertha (Bechtold) Schendel in Hanover, Minn. Mabel and her family lived on different farms in Wright County, near Buffalo, Dutch Lake, Yager Lake, and south of Waverly.

Mabel attended country school. She was baptized as an adult at the Church of Christ; and confirmed April 10, 1927, by the Rev. C. G. Seltz at St. James Lutheran Church.

On May 26, 1937, Mabel married Fritz Mahlstedt at the St. James parsonage, also by Seltz. They lived in Howard Lake until 1952, when they moved to a farm in Victor Township.

Mabel and Fritz lived on the farm until retiring in 1967, when they moved back to Howard Lake. Mabel continued to live in Howard Lake until she moved to Cokato in April 1999.

Mabel loved the Lord and faith was very important in her life. She was very active in church, belonging to the Ladies Circle, Presbyterian Women's Association, and prayer chain.

Mabel's first love was her children. She also had a love for needlework, quilting, and cooking.

At the time of her death, Mabel had reached the age of 87 years, one month, and seven days.

She is survived by her husband Fritz; children: Deanna (Richard) Augustine of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; Virgil (Linda) of Hastings, Minn.; Lester (Sherry) of Lester Prairie, and Betty (David) Workman of Cokato; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred Schendel; and a sister, Alma Engel.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Audrey, 2 1/2 years; grandchildren, Mark and Suzanne; brothers, Arthur, Roy, Alvin, and Gilbert; and sisters, Lillian Johnson and Elda Engel.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 24, 11 a.m., at Presbyterian Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Lisa Rossi officiating. Interment was at Howard Lake City Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Matt Bentz, Paul Condon, Jeff Augustine, Brad Ernst, David Mahlstedt, and Nic Workman.
