Matilda (Mrs. Joseph) Maresh, age 99 of Silver Lake, Minn., died Thursday, April 8, 1999 at Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson, Minn.
Matilda was born Jan. 14, 1900 in Sun Prairie, Wis., the daughter of Joseph and Rosa Janda Vasko. She attended country school in Rich Valley Township.
On Aug. 30. 1921, Matilda married Joseph Maresh at St. Joseph's Church, Silver Lake. Joseph and Matilda farmed in Silver Lake.
Matilda enjoyed quilting, gardening, flowers, and sewing. She also enjoyed playing cards and bingo and loved to be with her family. She preferred to be doing something outside the house, rather than inside.
Matilda was a member of the Church of the Holy Family in Silver Lake, as well as the Council of Catholic Women.
She is survived by her son, Edward of Hutchinson; daughter-in-law, Catherine (Fred) Maresh of Silver Lake; brother, Emil Vasko of New Prague; and sister, Frances Franek of Jordan; three grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Matilda was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Fredrick Maresh; brothers, Vincent, Joseph, Charley, Frank and Ladislav; and sisters, Anna Ardolf, Mary Pavlish, Emma Maresh, Elizabeth Honzalek, Rose Jilek, Josephine Vasko, and Agnes Shevlin.
Funeral services were Monday, April 12, 1999, 2 p.m.,at the Church of the Holy Family, Silver Lake, with the Rev. Robert Mraz officiating. Music was provided by the organist, Val Shamla and the Holy Family Adult Choir. Hymns were "Here I Am, Lord," "Be Not Afraid," "On Eagle's Wings," and "Prayer of St. Francis."
Pallbearers were Andrew Maresh, Joe Maresh, Luke Maresh, Mike Duffy, Don Seaver, and Edward Vasko. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Maresh Funeral Home, Silver Lake.
