Arnold John Melvin Martinson
Arnold John Melvin Martinson, age 81 of Cokato, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.
Arnold was born March 12, 1918, in Cokato to John and Gerda (Larsson) Martinson. He was baptized and confirmed at Elim Mission Church, Cokato.
After graduating from Cokato High School in 1936, Arnold attended Dunwoody Institute for a short time, leaving there to join the war production effort, working for Minneapolis Moline.
In 1943, Arnie returned home and took over his father's construction business. He owned and operated this business until retiring in 1995. His business was involved in many construction projects in the area, ranging from churches, schools, commercial and residential properties.
On Feb. 24, 1950, Arnold married Pauline Clements of Littlefork, at the Baptist church in Cokato. To this union, three sons were born.
Arnie was active in his church and community. He served as trustee on the church board and volunteered many hours on the Corn Carnival committee. For this service, he received a certificate of appreciation in 1984.
Arnold passed away at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis on Sept. 19, 1999 having reached the age of 81 years, six months and seven days. His beloved wife of 49 years and his three sons were with him at the time of this death.
Arnold is survived by his wife Pauline; sons, John (Kristie), Bruce (Shelley), and Jim (Debbie); grandchildren: Leah, Amy, Jimmy, Erik, Jessie, Dan, Hope, Adam, Joey and Charstyn; sisters, Violet (George) Peterson, Glorene (Wendall) Clements, Astrid King, and Mardel Martinson; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Evelyn, Gladys, and Helen.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2 p.m., at Elim Mission Church, Cokato, with the Rev. Wally Glucklich officiating. Music was by Janet Moberg, Waldo Moberg, and Steve Kordahl. Interment was in Cokato City Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Arnie's grandchildren: Leah, Jimmy, Jessie, Hope, Joey, Amy, Erik, Dan, Adam, and Charstyn. Honorary casket bearers were Lee Anderson, Ed Boltman, Carlton Holmberg, Waldo Moberg, George E. Peterson, Paul Anderson, Laurel Brandel, Don Kloss, Duane Peterson, Dwight Barnes, Wendell Clements, Chester Lundeen, Ralph Peterson, and George Pudas.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home, Inc., Cokato and Howard Lake.
