Roy Ellsworth Mauk
Roy Ellsworth Mauk, age 97 of Howard Lake, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Buffalo Memorial Hospital.
Roy was born July 1, 1902, in Middleville Township, Minn., to John (Jack) Calvin Mauk and Elizabeth Margaret (Easterling) Mauk.
As a young man, Roy was always interested in horses. He helped his father on the farm and loved to tell stories of his many teams of horses. Roy was very proud of the fact that, at one time, he could drive a four-horse hitch on some of the machinery. He had the chance to show his ability with his teams in the early days while working to help build and maintain roads.
On March 22, 1923, Roy was united in marriage to Ruth Ione Robinson at the Wright County Courthouse. To this union, four children were born.
Roy and Ruth farmed all of their lives. They detasseled corn and worked with seed corn for many years.
Roy loved his Allis Chalmers tractors, as well as going to auction sales, where he would miss all of the great buys because he was so busy visiting with people.
In September 1997, after falling, Roy became a resident of the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Care Center. He could tell stories of things that happened way back when he was a wee tot and remember everyone's names. He remained capable of doing this until early Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, when he had a massive heart attack and was taken to Buffalo Memorial Hospital. He passed away there the next morning, at the age of 97 years, five months, and 15 days.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth; three brothers, Frank, Everett, and Steve; one sister, Mabel; his son, Ellsworth; one grandson, John Triplett; and one great-granddaughter, April Montgomery.
He is survived by daughters, Ione Montgomery of Dassel; Gladys Triplett and husband, Don, of Howard Lake; and Margaret Noyed and husband, Oscar, of New Brighton; one daughter-in-law, Ardis Mauk of Montrose; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Roy is further survived by his brothers, John of Howard Lake, and Archie and wife, Eldora, of St. Louis Park; many nephews, nieces, and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, 11 a.m., at Walker United Methodist Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Marvin Repinski officiating. Music was by Diane Johnson and Jewell Malerich. Interment followed at Howard Lake City Cemetery.
