Alex C. Miles
Alex C. Miles, age 78 of Winsted, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at his residence.
Alex was born in New Castle, Pa. on Oct. 28, 1920, the son of Alexander C. and Vera Goss Miles Sr.
He honorably served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
On June 17, 1945, Alex was joined in holy marriage to Marjorie McNicholas in New Castle, Pa. God blessed their marriage with two children, Nancy and Ronald.
Alex was associated with the furniture manufacturing industry for 40 years and retired in 1982.
He was a past president and a long-time tailtwister of the Lester Prairie Lions Club. He also belonged to the Belvidere, Ill. Masonic Lodge #60 A.F. and A.M., the Minneapolis Scottish Rite, Minneapolis Chapter #9 R.A.M., and American Legion Post #407.
In addition, Alex was active in the Crow River Council of the Boy Scouts of America and with the 8th Air Force Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie; children, Nancy DeBruin of Winsted and Ronald Miles of Winsted and fiancee, Patricia Davis; grandchildren, John DeBruin and Linda (Gerry) Nowak; great-grandchildren, Alexandra Nowak and Erin Nowak; a sister, Irene Tyson of Greensburg, Pa.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander C. and Vera Miles Sr.; an infant brother, Harold; and a sister, Helen Oberholtzer.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 1999, at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted with the Rev. Chuck Risser officiating.
A Masonic service was also at the funeral home Saturday afternoon.
Interment with full military rites was Monday, April 5 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Friends called at the funeral home on Friday, April 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. and also on Saturday, one hour prior to the funeral service.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
