Reuben V. Miller, Sr.
Reuben V. Miller, Sr., age 77 of the Milaca area and formerly of Winsted, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at the Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Reuben was born Oct. 31, 1921, to Victor and Ester (Zimmerman) Miller in Winsted, where he grew up and attended school. At the age of 14, he went to work to support his mother and sister due to the death of his father.
He was drafted into the Army in October 1942, and achieved the rank of sergeant. Reuben was awarded the Purple Heart, ETO Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Infantry Medal, Combat Badge and the African Campaign Medal as a member of the service. He was honorably discharged in December, 1945.
On April 27, 1946, Reuben was united in marriage to Alice Forsman at the St. Paul Cathedral. To this union, six children were born.
The couple made their home in Winsted for many years, later moving to Grantsburg, Wis., and then to St. Paul. While in St. Paul, Reuben worked for the American Can Company. After retirement, they moved to the Milaca area.
Reuben was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Milaca, the Knights of Columbus, a past member of the Onamia VFW and the Winsted American Legion.
Survivors include his children: Richard A. (Jane) of Darwin, Mary Lou (Cary) Fohrenkamm of Lexington, Reuben V. Jr. (Connie) of St. Paul Park, Deborah E. (Mark) Huffman of Milaca, Raymond V. (Bonnie) of Onamia, and Alicia (Buddy) Williams of Onamia; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Dobratz of Hutchinson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Alice in 1997.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, July 12, 1999, 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Milaca, with the Rev. Richard John officiating. Music was by Marion Katke and Ann Johnson.
Casket bearers were Mark, Russell, Robert and John Miller; and Jason and Tom Fohrenkamm.
Visitation was Sunday, July 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Graveside services and military honors were at 3 p.m. Monday, July 12, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Winsted with the Rev. Paul Wolf officiating.
Arrangements were by the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca.
