Christina Anna Monroe
Funeral services for Christina Monroe, age 90 of Glencoe, were Thursday, March 11, 1999, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. Christina died Sunday, March 7, 1999.
Christina Anna Monroe was born the daughter of Ferdinand and Laura Litzau Jannusch May 4, 1908, in Green Isle Township of Sibley County, Minn. She was baptized the following month at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Helen Township by the Rev. Hupfer. Christina was confirmed at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Plato by the Rev. Zelinski.
On July 8, 1926, Christina was united in marriage to Frank J. Monroe Jr. at St. Paul's in Plato by the Rev. Eyrich. The couple made their home in Bergen Township of McLeod County, where they were engaged in farming.
In 1971, they retired to a home in rural Pine River. After Frank's death in 1977, Christina remained in their northern home enjoying crocheting, gardening and walking in her wooded wonderland.
Since her marriage, Christina has been a member at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. In 1991, she moved to Glencoe and for the past year was a resident at the Glencoe Area Health Center Long Term Care Unit. It was there that she entered her eternal rest at the age of 90 years, 10 months and three days.
Christina is preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Frederick; and one granddaughter, Katherine Monroe.
She is survived by her children: Dolores (Andrew) Arnold of Hackensack, Minn.; Evelyn (Waldemar) Ruschke of Glencoe; DeRoyce (Janice) Monroe of Lester Prairie; and Eugene (Barbara) Monroe of Jacksonville, Ore.; grandchildren: Linda (Clarke) Daniel of Eden Prairie; Susan Schroeder of Long Prairie, Minn.; Ranaye (Larry) Suttles of Glencoe; Michael (Nikki) Monroe of Puyallup, Wash.; Kara (Shawn) Brandt of Lewisville, Texas; Patricia Monroe of Long Beach, Calif.; and Matthew (Katie) Monroe of Bloomington, Minn.; as well as six great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by brothers and sisters: Leonard Jannusch of Glencoe, George (Elvira) Jannusch of Glencoe, Dora Kingsley of Jordan; Verona Howell of Glencoe; Luella (August) Ristow of Norwood Young America; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gerald Schwanke officiating. The organist was Mary Mielke. Congregational hymns were "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," "How Great Thou Art," "In The Garden," and "Just As I Am."
Casket bearers were Michael Monroe, Matthew Monroe, Timothy Schroeder, Shawn Brandt, Larry Suttles, and Clarke Daniel. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday evening, March 10, at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
