Gerald J. Navratil

Funeral services for Gerald J. Navratil, age 73 of Silver Lake, were Wednesday, May 26, 1999, 10:30 a.m., at Holy Family Church, Silver Lake. Gerald died Sunday, May 23, 1999, at his home.

The Rev. Robert Mraz officiated at the funeral services. The organist was Val Shamla with the Holy Family adult choir. Hymns were "Amazing Grace," "Faith of Our Father," "On Eagle's Wings" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Mike Navratil, Jim Navratil, Jerry Svihel, Jim Pichotta, Larry Kaminsky, and Ray Slanga were the pallbearers. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Silver Lake

Gerald was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Rich Valley Township, McLeod County, to James and Josephine Fiala Navratil. He graduated from Silver Lake High School.

Gerald served in the U. S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was employed with the U. S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier for 27 years at Silver Lake.

On Sept. 6, 1958, Gerald married Carol Pesina at St. Joseph Church in Silver Lake.

He enjoyed woodcarving, golfing, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the Silver Lake Fire Department, Silver Lake Sportsmen's Club, and American Legion Post 141. He also belonged to Holy Family Church in Silver Lake.

Gerald was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a friend to many and liked to visit with people.

Gerald is survived by his wife Carol of Silver Lake; children, Daniel and Shirley of Chanhassen, Bernie and Terry of Dayton, and David and Sara of New Brighton; two grandchildren; brothers: Bernie and Julie Navratil of Calbert, Wash.; Cyril and Gertrude Navratil of Silver Lake; and Jim and Deannie Navratil of Brainerd; sisters: LaRue Svihel and husband, Clarence of Inver Grove Heights, Lavon Pichotta and husband, Joe, of Stewart, and Annette Kaminsky and husband, Jerome of Silver Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Josephine.

Arrangements were by Maresh Funeral Home, Silver Lake.
