Michael Florian Nowak
Michael Florian Nowak, age 45 of Silver Lake, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Michael was born Dec. 25, 1953 at Hutchinson Community Hospital, the son of Florian and Marietta (Fasching) Nowak. He was baptized in the Catholic faith in January, 1954. He later received the sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Michael attended Silver Lake Catholic School and Silver Lake Public High School.
He worked on the family farm until 1996. He then was employed by American Selected Products, and he worked there until the time of his death.
Michael had an avid interest in a variety of sports. He was a generous supporter of area raffles, enjoyed listening to music radio and socializing with fellow workers. He loved playing cards with his nieces and nephews.
Michael also enjoyed serving as a greeter and usher at Church of the Holy Family, Silver Lake.
Survivors include his parents, Florian and Marietta Nowak; sisters and brothers, Diane Hlavka and husband, William; Larry; Mary Ann Madson and husband, Mark; Phil and wife, Joleen; Joyce Jerabek and husband, Gary; Kathy Exsted and husband, Bruce; Jeanette Mickolichek and husband, Larry; Gerry and wife, Linda; nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Michael was preceded in death by a brother, Christopher Nowak; a niece, Amanda Nowak; paternal grandparents, Boylish and Frances Nowak; and maternal grandparents, Joseph and Appolonia Fasching.
Funeral services were Saturday, May 29, 1999, 10:30 a.m., at Church of the Holy Family, Silver Lake, with the Rev. Robert Mraz officiating. The servers were Michael's nephews, Cory Nowak and Darrin and Ryan Exsted; and offertory gifts were carried by nieces, Megan and Jamie Mickolichek and Allyson Hlavka.
Alica Nowak was the organist for the service and music was also provided by the Holy Family Adult Choir. The entrance hymn was "On Eagle's Wings;" offertory hymn, "I Am The Bread of Life;" and recessional hymn, "Amazing Grace." Communion hymns included a piano solo by Janae Piehl, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus;" "Hosea," sung by nieces, Stacy Exsted, Kristin, Stephanie, Jackie and Marisa Hlavka; and "Here I Am Lord," played by niece, Stacy Exsted.
Interment was at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Silver Lake. Pallbearers were Michael's nieces and nephews: Jason Jerabek, Joel Jerabek, Amy Nowak, Matt Nowak, Heidi Piehl, Michael Piehl, Stephanie Hlavka, and Kelli Nowak.
Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake handled the arrangements.
