Earl Lewis Olson
Earl Lewis Olson, age 78 of Glenwood, Minn., and formerly of Annandale, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at the Glenwood Retirement Village.
Earl was born July 25, 1921, in Annandale, Minn., the son of Albert and Merle (Bentley) Olson.
He grew up in Annandale and graduated from Annandale High School. He then attended Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis.
On June 9, 1942, Earl was united in marriage to Esther Gerber in Howard Lake. To this union, two children were born. Earl and Esther were able to share 58 years of marriage together.
After their marriage, Earl worked for Brinks, Cofields Novelty in Annandale, and La Beau Novelty in Minneapolis. His specialty was fixing Juke boxes and pinball machines.
In 1957, Earl became a Minnesota State Trooper, serving his last 19 years, before retirement, out of Glenwood.
Among the things he enjoyed doing were hunting, old movies, fixing anything electrical, traveling in his motor home, and driving school bus for a number of years. Earl especially enjoyed his great-grandchildren. A favorite pastime was bantering with his coffee friends at Torgy's.
Earl was preceded in death by his father, Albert. He is mourned in passing by his wife Esther of Glenwood; a daughter, Nancy (Bob) Grandrud of Glenwood; a son, Steve (Linda) Olson of Annandale; his mother, Merle Olson Bullock of Glenwood; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters, Eunice (William) Sage of San Diego, Calif.; Dorothy Rode of Annandale; and Mary (Robert) Sarault of Becker, Minn.
At the time of his death, Earl had reached the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 11 days.
Memorial services were held Saturday, July 8, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church. Visitation with the family began at noon at the church.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Annandale, at a later date.
