Violet M. Ortlip

Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, for Violet M. Ortlip, age 81 of New Germany. Violet died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Elim Home, Watertown.

The daughter of Gustav L. and Emma (Zummach) Hahn, Violet was born Feb. 13, 1919, at Mayer, Minn. She was baptized March 16, 1919, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, by the Rev. F. W. Erthal, and confirmed by the same April 9, 1933.

Violet married Victor Kohls on Sept. 8, 1940, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, by the Rev. E. Schwandt.

Victor and Violet owned and operated Kohls Hardware and Fuel Oil Business in New Germany for 40 years. Victor passed away in 1980.

On Feb. 14, 1984, Violet married Orville Ortlip at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany, by the Rev. Roger Hett.

An active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, Violet was also a guild member of Lutheran High School, Mayer.

She loved to garden, both vegetables and flowers.

Violet was preceded in death by her husbands Victor Kohls and Orville Ortlip; her parents, Gustav and Emma Hahn; a brother, Marvin Hahn; and sisters, Eleanor Ittel and Wyona Hedtke.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Gerald Roepke of New Germany; a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Roz Kohls of Glencoe; grandchildren, Eric and Patti Roepke, Christine Kohls, and Julie Kohls; and great-grandchildren, Rachel Roepke, Braedy Roepke, and Alexander Studeman.

She is further survived by step-children, Linda and Tom McGraw of Buffalo Lake, and Marlene Ortlip of Norwood Young America; one step-grandchild, Karrie Ingebretson; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Inez Hahn of Waconia, and Gladys and Roland (Red) Miller of Lester Prairie; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The Rev. Vicar Allen Holthus officiated at the 1:30 p.m. funeral service at St. Mark Lutheran Church, New Germany. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Casket bearers were Eric Roepke, Paul Roepke, Nathan Roepke, Douglas Studeman, Allison Ittel, and Leslie Hahn.

Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia, handled the arrangements.
