Kathryn B."Katie" Otto
Kathryn B."Katie" Otto, age 88 of Winsted, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at St. Mary's Care Center.
Kathryn was born May 21, 1910, in Hollywood Township, Carver County, the daughter of Edward and Johanna Spain Murphy.
She graduated from Watertown High School in 1929.
On June 9, 1931, Kathryn was joined in holy marriage to George Otto at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. God blessed their marriage with six children.
Kathryn and George engaged in farming for many years in Winsted Township, McLeod County. They also helped establish the Jolly Juniors 4-H Club and served as 4-H Club leaders.
A faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, Kathryn was an active parish volunteer for 35 years. In addition, she belonged to Holy Family Council #204.
Katie enjoyed bingo, playing cards, cooking and crocheting. She also enjoyed entertaining.
Survivors include her children: William (Joan) Otto of Winsted, Marilyn (Stan) Kummer of Bloomington, Gerald (Carole) Otto of Winsted, Paul (Theresa) Otto of Lester Prairie, and Fran (Barbara) Otto of Plymouth; a son-in-law, Harlan (Joann) Wegscheid of Lester Prairie; 21 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by a sister, Josephine "Josie" Scheiber of Winsted; six sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Rosemary Wegscheid, in 1963; her husband, George A. "Shorty" Otto, on July 29, 1990; and by four brothers and two sisters.
A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday, April 8, 10:30 a.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. The Revs. Paul L. Wolf and Gerald E. Keefe were the concelebrants.
Lavon Kielkucki was the organist for the Mass. David Matenaer, Charles Kummer and Brian Otto were the readers and Dean Neumann was the commentator.
Ryan Kummer, Kellie Guggemos and Natalie Matenaer were the gift bearers. Eve Pfutzenreuter, Christine Guggemos, Aaron Kummer, Sabrina Kieser, Samantha Drusch, Callie Newmann and Christopher Newmann were bearers of memories of Grandma.
Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Cheryl Siebert, Douglas Otto, Charles Kummer, Dan Wegscheid, Suzette Neumann and Stephen Matenaer served as casket bearers
Friends called at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted on Wednesday, April 7 from 4 to 9 p.m. A Holy Family Council rosary was recited at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
