Harry J. Peterson
Harry J. Peterson, age 88 of Howard Lake and formerly of Rockford Township, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000.
Harry was born Jan. 8, 1912, in Scarville, Iowa, the son of John and Stella (Nelson) Peterson.
He was baptized Feb. 26, 1912, in Vining, Iowa. Harry was instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith Dec. 6, 1926, in Clarissa.
On Dec. 26, 1934, Harry and Alta Rolstad were joined in holy marriage in Eagle Bend. Their marriage was blessed with four children.
Harry farmed in the Clarissa-Eagle Bend area for many years. In 1945, he moved into the town of Clarissa, where he owned and operated a dray business and the Red Owl Store. He also was a longtime livestock dealer.
Harry moved to Buffalo in 1963, and worked at FMC in Fridley, retiring in March 1977.
A licensed Realtor with Martin Sonsteby Realty in Rockford, Harry was also the proprietor of Quality Antiques, south of Buffalo.
He was the oldest member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, and was a former member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Clarissa.
Survivors include his children, Rolly D. (Kay) Peterson of Mora, Opal M. Peterson of Fridley, Beryl C. (Russ) Hay of Sedro Woolley, Wash., and Boyd W. (Laura) Peterson of Myrtle Point, Ore.; six grandchildren: Wanda Lee Peterson, Melvin Peterson, Cory Martin, Melanie Sharpe-Roberts, Charles Peterson, and Jordan Peterson; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Riley; a sister, Sadie Hokanson of Clarissa; a sister-in-law, Nathalie Peterson; and other relatives and friends.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents: his wife Alta on Dec. 26, 1987; a brother, John Peterson; and sisters, Evelyn Stone and Pearl Waage.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 16, 10 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church, Howard Lake, with the Rev. Joel Swedberg officiating.
Grant Judd was the organist for the funeral service. Special music was provided by the St. John's Mens Group.
Visitation was Tuesday, Aug. 15, 4 to 8 p.m., at the Peterson Chapel, Buffalo.
Honorary casket bearers were Doug Ouverson, George Klarstrom, Orion Weege, Tom Lynch, Charles Peterson and Kenny Sauderland.
Casket bearers were Melvin Peterson, Cory Martin, John Swanberg, Jim Swanberg, Joel Hokanson and Jim Kreitlow.
Interment was at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Eagle Valley Township, Todd County.
The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
