Otto A. Quaas
Otto A. Quaas, age 83 of Watertown, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
Otto was born Sept. 14, 1916, at Camden Township, Carver County, Minn., the son of Otto F. and Anna S. (Westermann) Quaas. He was baptized Oct. 8, 1916, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mayer, by the Rev. F. W. Erthal; and confirmed by the same March 29, 1931.
Otto served in the Army Air Corps from Oct. 30, 1941 to Nov. 24, 1945. He received the American Theater Medal, American Defense Medal, Victory Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and two Bronze Battle Stars.
Otto worked as an auto mechanic for Etnier's Garage and Midwest Sales and Service.
On April 23, 1949, Otto married Bernice M. Prehn at Zion Lutheran Church by the Rev. Elmer Schwandt.
An avid baseball fan, Otto passed his passion on to his children and grandchildren. His relationship with his grandchildren was extremely close.
Otto is survived by his wife Bernice; daughter, Barbara Quaas of St. Louis Park; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Mandy Quaas of Lester Prairie; and grandchildren, Jenny and Jeremy Quaas of Lester Prairie.
He is further survived by sisters, Anna Mielke of Waconia, and Florence Goede of New Germany; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ben and Lila Quaas of Mayer, Wallace and Sylvia Quaas of Chaska, and Mildred Honebrink of Belle Plaine; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Omer Schuettpelz of Mayer, and Gladys Pedersen of Norwood Young America; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Otto is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Anna Quaas; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl and Mathilda Prehn; sisters, Helen Ohm and Emma Jopp; brothers, Gilbert, Marion, and Fred Quaas; nieces, Beverly Lund, Carol Quaas, and Linda Hilk; and nephew, Gerald Quaas.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 22, 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, Watertown, with the Revs. Robert Ericson and Debra Warnes officiating.
Interment was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Watertown, with a military graveside service by the Watertown American Legion.
Casketbearers were Otto's nephews, Kenneth Quaas, Maynard Ohm, David Jopp, James Henning, Mark Quaas, Greg Quaas, Dan Quaas, and Kevin Quaas.
Johnson Funeral Home, Waconia, handled the arrangements.
