Oscar August Quast, 11/18/2000


Oscar August Quast, age 75 of Winsted, died Saturday, Nov.
18, 2000, at St. Mary’s Care Center.
Oscar was born July 27, 1925, in rural Winsted, the son
of Michael and Louisa (Schermann) Quast.
On Oct. 3, 1950, Oscar and Blanche F. Jaskowiak were joined
in holy marriage at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, Silver Lake. Their marriage
was blessed with seven children. Blanche preceded Oscar in death on Sept.
25, 1987.
Oscar engaged in dairy farming on the Quast family homestead
in Winsted Township for many years, retiring in 1987. He also was a seasonal
worker at the Green Giant Company, Glencoe, for over 20 years.
Oscar was a lifetime member of the Holy Trinity Catholic
Church, Winsted. He was also the longtime treasurer of the Winsted Township
Board.
Survivors include his children: Arlinda (Kenneth) Baumann
of Silver Lake, Wayne (Barb) Quast of Winsted, Terry (Julie) Quast of Hutchinson,
Lori Santos of Big Lake, Jane (Mike) Lemcke of Madison, Wisc., Al (Deb)
Quast of Lakeville, and Vern (Lorelee) Quast of St. Bonifacius; grandchildren:
Julie Klima and Megan Schmeling; Adam Quast, Trevor Quast, Kevin Quast,
Jordan Quast, Kelly Quast and Brooke Quast; Emily Westrup, Neal Westrup,
Leah Santos and Grace Santos; Henry Lemcke and Tess Lemcke, Xavier Quast
and Xenia Quast; and great-granddaughters, Molly Klima and Jennifer Schmeling.
Oscar is further survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law,
Polly McClary, Clara (Leonard) Laxen, Theresa (Jerome) Cafferty, Mary Quast,
and Lila Jaskowiak; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, Oscar was preceded in
death by his parents; two brothers, Ambrose and Phillip Quast; and by a
sister-in-law, Myrtle “Myrt” Quast.
A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, Nov.
21, 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Winsted, with the Revs.
Paul L. Wolf and Martin F. Rath, OSB, as the concelebrants. The organist
was Lavon Kielkucki and the soloist was Carrie Knott. Interment followed
at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Adam Quast, Trevor Quast, Kevin Quast,
Jordan Quast and Neal Westrup.
A visitation took place from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov.
20 at the Chilson Funeral home, Winsted, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
